Overview
At the tenth edition of the Liège Throwdown in Herstal, Esmée and Anna took gold in the Duo Scaled Female. Ricardo fought his way to 4th place in the Masters 35+ and Naomi finished 4th in the Inter Female.
The Liège Throwdown took place from 14 to 16 August 2026 in sports hall La Préalle in Herstal, just north of Liège. It is one of the bigger competitions in Belgium, with divisions ranging from Elite to Duo Scaled. Nine of our athletes took to the floor this weekend, spread over six divisions. This year the workouts had names like One More Round, Ride or Die, Run Forest Run, Under Pressure and The Final Boss.
Esmée and Anna won four of the six workouts and took 1st place with 585 points. In Under Pressure, a twelve minute AMRAP with wall balls, synchro dumbbell deadlifts, synchro burpee double jumps and pull-ups, they reached 308 reps. Then they had six minutes to find the heaviest clean and jerk: together they reached 135 kg. The Final Boss closed with 50 unbroken single unders each, 30 pull-ups and 10 worm clean and jerks, and they finished that workout in 5:10. The only workout outside the top 2 this weekend was the run. Hats off, ladies.
Ricardo was 11th in the Masters 35+ after the first workout and finished the weekend in 4th place with 498 points. For five workouts he kept fighting back. He ran Run Forest Run (400 metres running, 50 sandbag squats with 60 kg and another 400 metres) in 5:15, good for 4th place. In Under Pressure, a twelve minute AMRAP with wall balls, deadlifts at 100 kg, handstand walk and bar muscle-ups, he reached 186 reps: the second-best score of the entire division. He finished The Final Boss (50 unbroken double unders, 50 chest to bars and 30 snatches at 60 kg) in 6:48, good for 3rd place. From 11th to 4th in five workouts.
Naomi competed in the Inter Female Division and finished 4th of 13 athletes. She was 5th in the first workout with sandbag cleans, 6th in the max line-facing burpees, 4th in Run Forest Run and 2nd in the lift event. The Final Boss included 50 unbroken double unders, something she had never done before. Her first attempt was a hit, and she took a 6th place there too.
Marissa (Inter Female), Dasha and Juul (Duo RX Female/Male) and Lina and Rob (Duo Inter Female/Male) also competed in Herstal this weekend.
Congratulations to Esmée, Anna, Ricardo, Naomi, Marissa, Dasha, Juul, Lina and Rob on their performances at the Liège Throwdown 2026.
